Use your merch to join the movement for #BandShirtDay 2023
The second annual Band Shirt Day (#BandShirtDay) is coming up on Friday, September 15th, and artists like Portugal. The Man, Blondie, The Format, Neal Francis, Grace Potter, Dead Kennedys, and more are offering special tees or deals on their merch with some or all of the proceeds benefiting causes of their choosing.
Like Record Store Day, Band Shirt Day invites artists to join the movement and get your merch in front of more fans while making a difference for a cause you care about.
Bandsintown has joined forces with Spotify, MerchFriends, Hello Merch, Rough Trade NYC, and WASTOIDS, and it’s not too late for artists to be included this year.
Register at bnds.in/bandshirtday and dedicate a portion of sales on September 15th to a cause of your choice or to the Official Band Shirt Day Fund in partnership with gofundme, which will distribute to Planned Parenthood, Project Hope, The Ally Coalition, MusicCares, ACLU, Animal Legal Defense Fund & many more.
To spread the word to fans:
1. Create a new post
2. Draft a message and include a link for fans to purchase merch on Sept 15
3. Select targeting
4. Send
“Independent music has a deep history of sustainability through community focus, fundraising, street teams, and guerilla marketing. MerchFriends, through Band Shirt Day, is bringing together communities to help solve problems we face every day,” said Sam Means, MerchFriends and Hello Merch co-founder, and member of indie rock band The Format.
In New York City, Band Shirt Day and Rough Trade Records will curate the free Artist Merch Market at indieplaza, Rough Trade’s festival at Rockefeller Center on Saturday, September 9th. The market will feature limited-edition products from Hello Merch, Rough Trade vinyl bins, artist signings, and more.
